19th c Cold Painted Austrian Sculpture, Smoke Stand

Description

This sculpture of a seated man is quite an interesting piece. It is marked Made in Austria on the bottom, but the metal is not bronze like most of these sculptures. It is more likely pewter as it is non-magnetic and white. The holder for the matches is most likely tin. It depicts an oriental man sitting on a rug with a pipe and a basket by his side. Behind the basket is the match holder. It is definitely from the end of the 19th century and has a great patina.  Measurements are:  5 ¾" by 4" by 3 ½".
