  • Country/Region of Origin: Arabic country or Middle East
  • Maker: Handmade
  • Color: Aged Patina is Beautiful
  • Age: Estimated: 1890's to 1920's
  • Style: Brass
  • Weight: 2 1/4 pounds
  • Type: Arabit Tea Pot
  • Condition: Excellent Conditon Throughout. Without a doubt, this tea pot was hand hammered. You can see how the hammer formed the base of the pot from the slightly irregular hammer marks. It's very solid, and it's all complete and fully functioning. Stands just shy of 12 inches in height. From the spout to the edge of the handle is 10 inches. The diameter of the hammered base is 4 inches. The weight is 2 1/4 pounds. It looks like the inside of the kettle / pot was silver lined. I can only say that it looks like silver. I have no means of testing the metal content, but it distinctly looks like silver overlay. This pot has been used quite a bit. But there are no wear signs to prohibit its use for decades more. It is my honest guess that it must be from the early 1900's or perhaps earlier. There is an arabic symbol on the side (see 4th photo). I have blown it up as much as my camera would allow. It quite honestly looks like something a WWI soldier may have brought home.

    Description

Without a doubt this tea pot is handmade.  It's also had a lot of use.  I wish that It could talk and tell of it's life and adventrures.  To hold this tea pot gives you a sense of greater history than just a tea pot, but I can only speculate as to what history that might be.
The handle looks like it was hand hammered and hand cut.  You can still see the file marks. The top pendant is not lathe turned.  It was shaped with a file, as it is just ever so slightly out of round, and the file marks (although smooth) are apparent. The spout is elongated in the Arabic fashion.  The spout is also hand hammered. This is a very heavy and thick brass tea pot.  There is nothing lightweight or skimpy about it.  Whomever made this tea pot was interested in function over esthetics.  Although the estetics are excellent, the tea pot was made to serve the function of service.  When in the upright position the tea pot lid seals fully on all sides.   Some of the pictures have the pot laying down.  In the laying down postiion the lid doesn't appear to be shut (if fully closes and seals properly). The rivits holding the handle to the pot were handmade, and they look to be brass (and very heavy duty).
To hold this tea pot is to have a sense of holding an object that has known something of history.
