NICE LARGE ANTIQUE EARLY 19TH CENTURY ENGLISH PEWTER 1 QT MUG TANKARD

Description

Neat early nineteenth century English 1 quart tankard made out of pewter and hallmarked with a crown over VR (for Queen Victoria Regina) over 27, next to 1 Quart.  That it is stamped VR for Queen Victoria does not necessarily mean this tankard wasn't made earlier than her reign.  Marks were standardized in 1836 and earlier pieces were subsequently marked to fulfill the requirements of the new law.
Numerous small soft dents and one old repair to the bottom side.  It was used and loved much and has great character.  Looks great sitting on a shelf or mantle or side table.  The top is out of round.  Fine patina due to age.
