RARE 19THC ANTIQUE 1870S MCLOUGHLIN BROS OPTICAL TOY MAGIC MIRROR WOOD BOX

Description

You are bidding on a great early estate found right from an attic of a three Generation estate. The sliding cover on this 7 ½" by 10 5/8" by 2" tall wood box has a lithograph design showing a young girl looking at a Prince in a tall mirror. Made by, McLoughlin Bros of New York this "Magic Mirror or Wonderful Transformations" is a unique Optical Toy. Inside are twenty-four, 6" by 7 ½" colorful lithographs with unusual, curved stretched designs. There also is a 1" diameter by 4 ¼" tall, fragile mercury glass tube. When you place the tube in the middle of the circle on the lithograph and then look at the reflection in the tube you will see the curved designs turn into recognizable people and objects. There are people on bicycles, animals, famous people, and other unusual subjects that you would not recognize until you look into the "Magic Mirror". Overall, this circa 1870s McLoughlin Toy.  Other than a little cleaning from some attic dust it is in very nice condition. We are listing this rare, Victorian Optical Toy.
