    Description

SPINERO BRONZE ORIGINAL PERIOD CASTING CIRCA 1880 EX. COND. MUSEE DU LOUVRE
This is a original pre 1900 bronze casting of Spinero or Boy with Thorn and sometimes called Fedele. This is a famous Greco Roman Hellenistic figure that was known from Antiquity. This large 18 by 13 by 7 1/4 inch version was sold by the Musee du Louvre to people on their Grand Tour travels. We date this to around 1880. The quality and the casting are very fine and was most likely done for the museum by the Barbedienne foundry who produced a number of works for them. In excellent condition with a deep chocolate brown patina with no flaws. We could find no large castings like this for sale and only 1 this large having been sold at Christies in 2007 for around 00.00. If you like classical sculpture this would be a great addition to your collection.
