    Description

This bowl, #567 by Nambe in an aluminum alloy measures approximately 7” by 6”, 3 ½”  tall and weighs about 1 pound, 11 ounces. It is in fine condition with very little wear, just a few scratches (see photos). Nambe metal is an 8-metal alloy, primarily aluminum developed by the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico in the 1940’s. Exclusive products began being made by Nambe Mills founded in 1951 near Nambe Pueblo 10 miles south of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Nambe means “people of the round earth”. The products were made by a small group of craftsmen using sand molds. The bowl or plate is broken away from the sand mold, shaped and polished. The mold is used only once and destroyed. No  two pieces are exactly alike. The products are now made in India using the same methods. They can  be heated in an oven to 500 degrees Fahrenheit but cannot be used in a microwave as they are metal.  (3215-
